Hello everyone!
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Sometimes comedy can come from a place of stress or pain and you should let it. In the middle of this crazy week I took a break from said stress to walk to the grocery store. The self help podcast I was listening to on the way had a guest on who talked about how important it is to see the glass as half full.
Look, I get it. Attitude has a lot to do with how we handle a situation. Yet at that moment I felt weirdly angry. It’s hard to be a glass half full person when you feel like you’ve got nothing in your glass. That simple angry thought inspired these series of sketches and ideas.
From this page of ideas I enjoyed the lifecycle one the most and turned it into a comic. First I narrowed down what I’d do with more specific sketches.
Then I took the time to draw each while providing some explanations. It is weird, but you have to embrace where your comedy takes you sometimes. Though I did choose an ending that made me happy, knowing that my negative emotions were only temporary. I could have pushed it and made it darker, yet I felt compelled to make it happier in hope of creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I don’t have many tips for how to get out of funks besides to press on and keep busy. Today I cleaned the apartment pretty thoroughly. Plus I’ve committed to taking better care of our one houseplant that still lives.
